What is The Ayurvedic Dosha Clock?

While some of us are most productive during dawn, there are many who just cannot wake up at that time! Even if they do wake up, they don't register anything for a few hours! While some of us can stay up all night without any trouble, there are others who just cannot keep their eyes open post 10 PM!

So why does that happen? Why do we all feel energetic and dull at different times of the day? Why do some of us work well in the morning, while some others are most productive during night time?

Most of us break down our day into three main schedules - work time, sleep time and 'me' time. Out of these, mostly the work time is the longest followed by sleep time and then, lastly, the 'me' time, which many might consider lucky to have, considering the kind of lifestyles we lead!

We have mentioned all about the three doshas as per Ayurveda - Vata, Pitta and Kapha. But just like the varying characteristics of each of the doshas, even the energies of these doshas are different at different times of the day! Now, let’s focus on the doshas as energies that impact our health and wellbeing.

Ayurveda divides 24 hours into groups wherein one particular Dosha is dominant. So, how is the division made?

  • 6 AM to 10 AM – KaphaTime
  • 10 AM to 2 PM – PittaTime
  • 2 PM to 6 PM – VataTime
  • 6 PM to 10 PM – KaphaTime
  • 10 PM to 2 AM – PittaTime
  • 2 AM to 6 AM – VataTime

Working our own body clock around these times is what will benefit us the most, no matter what our own prevalent Dosha is. Each of us has a prominent Doshaof the three. Find out what yours is by clicking here. Your Dosha can determine a lot about you - right from the physical appearance to the energy levels within the body. The Doshas manifest themselves in times of the day as well as seasons of the year.

Knowing and understanding the dominant Dosha can really help in improving everything about oneself- right from digestion to productivity of the body and mind. This can not only help in fulfilling goals that one sets for himself or herselfand also make sure that at the end of the day, one gets good sleep! People who have a particular aggravated Dosha should be especially careful during the time when that Dosha is prevalent, because they might find it too much to handle. While one Dosha type might feel at peak energy at that time, another Dosha type might be the laziest and slowest during the same time. Those who have an aggravated Dosha might find it very hard to push through that time of the day!

While Vata is the least stable of all the Doshas, Kapha is the heaviest and Pitta, the most volatile. Ayurveda has divided the entire day with respect to the Doshas, which means that there is Kapha time, Pitta time as well as Vata time during the duration of 24 hours.

There are times in the day when one particular Dosha is prominent. Working along with that, which is the natural rhythm, is what is the most beneficial for us. So what's the best time for every activity - be it eat, sleep or wake up? Let's give you more details on that! First up, let's deal with the Vata Dosha times of the day.
